Confessions of a shopoholic

I got the symptoms early last week. The itching started by Monday and by Thursday I couldn't stand it anymore. Well whats a girl to do? So I went. Shopping I mean. On Thursday afternoon. Got off the office 1 hr early (I hope to goodness my PM doesn't read this blog!) and went in search of the Perfect Denim Jeans. And sadly I would like to announce to my fellow suffering members of the female species, the Perfect Jeans, just like the Perfect Guy - is a myth.

I went through the little slinky tops in Romafour wondering who might be brave to wear those in Lanka and guessed that if you can brave the glares of some shop assistants there who stalk you around as if you're going to shoplift something, then you could pretty much brave anything. There was this uber koool jean jacket that I almost bought -but then I didn't because I couldn't think of a cool enough place to wear it. This is something that I now regret however. So if you're reading this and you like little jean jackets, pleeeese go and take a look at it! Oh and I didn't run in to Anarkali and her famous ex this time.

Then I went to MC because I was still on the trail of the elusive Perfect Denim. I was actually going to get a Levi's as a lifetime investment but this maroon turtleneck knit top in a little corner shop at MC stopped me in my tracks and demanded that I bought it. By the time I decided between the bold maroon and a frivolous pink it was already 5 and my ride was already there.

On Saturday I cast a spell on my hitherto un-shopoholic family and convinced them to take me to BMICH to the Colombo shopping festival. Bummer! Daddy was enchanted by organic all natual herbal air freshners and Mummy went through a painful search of something suitable to buy. They both struck gold but I found none but a pair of cotton shorts. BTW the darling cocker spaniel puppy that was on display for sale deserves a mention. You are simply gorgeous and I love you even though I don't have 20000 to buy you :(

Come Sunday and I went to Mondy - still yearning for that Denim. They usually have really nice ones, but somehow as luck would have it, they didn't. The only nice onces they had were tapered which I don't really like. I ended up buying a white cotton pants and a purplish top and even got a free mug :)
Then off to the SLECC for the consumer fair thing which I really love going to! Ladies if you haven't gone yet go now! I got really nice red flip flops and this denim-ish handbag and 2 tops -all for 1500/=. Good no?
And ... thats it! That concludes my shopping fest this aurudu.!

PS: Sorry for all of those who thought this was going to be a review on the movie of the same name :)

  3. Not really so ! I meant the perfect jeans... no idea about the guy (cause I am accused one too many times of not being the "perfect" guy my self)

You should know that the Sri Lanka'n Levis is actually cut and made to fit the Europe women.

If you are really looking for that "perfect" denim.. ask someone to buy you a pair from Singapore

In my own experience, "Diesel" is much more fitting than "Levis". !

    Just my opinion though !

  4. @Nash Node:
thnx for the tip..bt I really cant buy ANY item of clothing unless I fit on it first :( so I'd hav to go 2 Singapore my self..Not likely in da near future
hmmm is there a difference in Lankan and european women body parts?? I'm mystified...hehe

  5. Well..yes, I am no doctor or women specialist, but they call it the (WHR) = Waist to Hip Ratio ! (I my self learned that from a friend of mine in Mass intimate) :-)..

European women has more WHR when compared to Asian woman... which in plain stupid language that means European women look more "feminine" than Asian woman ! (may be a hypocritical statement invented by them selves).. but the point is, Asian woman has more fat in their thighs than of European woman.

So when you put on a pair of Jeans made to European "cut", they look ODD and out of place !

The vice verse goes for men.. where Asian men has more lean and longer legs than of European men. (hence explains the baggy looking denims all our chaps wear)

So, in conclusion, if you are an Asian woman who can't buy jeans that are designed for Asians... better stick with the slacks or baggy ! .. rather than figure hugging jeans !

Although, if you are hell bent on it.. go for stuff from local designers the likes of "Dilly" or the "Rebel" label.

Lolz, don't get me wrong as a fashion guru.... I am someone who never shaves (trims only).. barely looks after my self and never even care what I do with my body... and when it comes to fashion, a CHIMP can dress better than me.

But I am cynically crazy and picky about the brands I wear ! :-D

Bluetooth support on Android Emulator

I have been playing around with Android lately, and one thing that annoyed me is the emulator does not support Bluetooth (as opposed to J2ME emulator, which does). So if you do not have an actual Android device (like me), and you want to do Bluetooth/WiFi programming, you run in to a problem. Fortunately, there is a way out - Install the Android image on a VM and use your own Bluetooth device. This is what I did: Download Androidx86 from http://www.android-x86.org/ . This is an .iso file, so you'd need something like VMWare or VirtualBox to run it. Me, I use VirtualBox. When creating the virtual machine, you need to set the type of guest OS as Linux instead of Other. After creating the virtual machine, set the network adapter to 'Bridged'. Start the VM and select 'Live CD VESA' at boot. Now you need to find out the ip of this VM. Go to terminal in VM (use Alt+F1 & Alt+F7 to toggle) and use the netcfg command to find this. Now you need open a command
