It's system malfunction again in our apartment :( This time, its not just our apartment - but the whole block - which amounts to around 100 units.
Earlier last week, smoke started coming out of our oven and when we tried switching on the gas stove, the fuses went off with a bang and the sparks wouldn't come. I guess water had leaked in somewhere and caused a shorting of wires that time... They did provide us with an electric oven with hot plates but hot plates suck. And it eats up electricity as well...
So anyway today morning I got up early - well 7.30 am in the Autumn is 'early' for me - since I was planning to make coconut fudge aka 'Pol Dosi' for the new year tomorrow. Made tea and heated up some leftover cheese buns and was happily examining the frozen packet of scraped coconut when I discovered that there was no gas.
Lucky for me that I had cooked some curries earlier in the week...But I really wanted to make Pol Dosi :( Mung Kavum (or something that vaguely resembling it) I made on Friday - just as well : deep frying is impossible on hot plates.
But I digress. To come to the title of this post, our hot water is powered by.... yep you guessed it..Gas. So no gas means no hot water and to stand in a cold shower at 8 am when the temperature is below 10 and the water is even more cold is ...well I leave it to your imagination!
But I did endure it - for cleanliness' sake! After all, the sea at Honeymoon bay, Tasmania was much much colder and I did have a swim there for nearly 30 minutes or so. Never mind that I almost caught a chill after...
Amazing what you can do if you put your mind to it!
