Friends...

Woke up late on Wednesday morn and was immediately depressed because of the number of lecture notes I had to study before the 4th. At 10 it occurred to my foggy mind that I was due at Queens to lunch with my old school buddies …or was I? Was it Wednesday or Thursday? And was it 12 or 1? Hmm… a phone call to London and her mom assures me (London being unavailable at the time due to her annual bath) that the date is indeed today and the time is 12 pm.

I decide to study a bit more and soon feel disgusted at my lecture notes, which contain gazillion definitions all in the size of micro print. Maybe they forgot to handout microscopes at the lecture.

At 11.30, I abandon the heady world of wffs and FOPL and head for Queens.

12.30 – Arrive at Queens. All my friends minus one are already there! Awww its so good to see the gals again! Ooh Mad-Oori is wearing glasses!! Gonsi says she’s supposed to wear specks as well, but she doesn’t. ‘Umm why?’ we ask. ‘It looks so ugly’ comes her intellectual response and is immediately bombarded with lectures from yours truly and Mad-Oori.

Since NoMoney is MIA, we decide to wait for her before ordering and talk talk talk! Boy did we talk! There’s so much to say and so much to ask … I read somewhere that friendships forged at school are the strongest and survive the longest… I have known all of these people for more than a decade…

After gossiping for an hour and ordering nothing, we suppose the waiters must be pretty frustrated! Plus London and Mad-Oori are starved. But still no sign of NoMoney. London informs us that she’s at an interview. We decide to study the menu. So we spend another 15 minutes trying to figure out what to order and the dilemma on what to do about NoMoney. Someone comes up with the bright idea of smsing NoMoney the menu and asking what to order (Readers please don’t freak out…No we didn’t actually type the whole menu , it was more like – fried rice, submarines (veg/chicken/shrimp/tuna) take ur pick).

Having witnessed my very first campus fight in 4 years, (hmm on second thought, my very first major fight.. there was this little thingie at the open canteen where guys threw their plates of rice at each other when i was in my 1st year) I began to narrate the whole thing to my friends, especially the reason for the fight which is like the most immature reason I can think of for creating a big commotion. TL is not impressed though! She describes an even dumber (and funnier) fight at her uni where the whole thing was caused by a guy pushing a string hopper down another guy's throat!!

The lunch arrives and we start to eat. LuvDot announces that she’s getting married next year! This leads to a discussion on what everyone is planning to do and I get to know TL has just finished her degree... (I soo want to say ‘me too’ but I have one more month to go!) Gonsi is planning to stay at home and raise her little sis’s kids (!) London has exams next month and Dr.Mad-Oori has 1 more year to go.

Halfway through lunch, NoMoney finally arrives! and she’s looking like this smart career women in glam magz!

Fun fact : NoMoney biting into her chicken submarine and commenting ‘Hey this tastes like chicken submarine’ (!)

So after a really really great time, its time for us to part … A few photos and many hugs later I’m walking down Queens road reminiscing those days at school which now seem so long ago …We in our white uniforms and the blue tie with that devil-may-care laughter and school girls’ innocence…(Sigh)...Another time, another place…

  1. "school girls’ innocence" ??! I'v never known any school girls who were innocent. Come to think of it I'v never known any school girls. hmmm, that may explain the first fact. Quite an interesting naming system you have for your friends though :D.

BTW, I posted a reply to your comment

Bluetooth support on Android Emulator

I have been playing around with Android lately, and one thing that annoyed me is the emulator does not support Bluetooth (as opposed to J2ME emulator, which does). So if you do not have an actual Android device (like me), and you want to do Bluetooth/WiFi programming, you run in to a problem. Fortunately, there is a way out - Install the Android image on a VM and use your own Bluetooth device. This is what I did: Download Androidx86 from http://www.android-x86.org/ . This is an .iso file, so you'd need something like VMWare or VirtualBox to run it. Me, I use VirtualBox. When creating the virtual machine, you need to set the type of guest OS as Linux instead of Other. After creating the virtual machine, set the network adapter to 'Bridged'. Start the VM and select 'Live CD VESA' at boot. Now you need to find out the ip of this VM. Go to terminal in VM (use Alt+F1 & Alt+F7 to toggle) and use the netcfg command to find this. Now you need open a command...
